On 1 April 2026, the insurance industry held a coordination meeting at the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia.
The meeting was attended by non-life insurance companies – members of the Insurance Group within the Chamber, insurance brokerage companies – members of the Association of Insurance Brokerage Companies within the Chamber, as well as the regulator – the Council of Experts of the Insurance Supervision Agency (ASO), and the Director of the National Insurance Bureau (NBO).
The main topic of the meeting was the alignment of operations between insurance companies and insurance brokerage companies, in accordance with the regulator’s Instruction for the consistent application of the Law on Insurance Supervision, particularly in the area of performing insurance brokerage activities. This alignment is to be completed no later than 1 July 2026.
To this end, insurance companies and the National Insurance Bureau are working on upgrading existing systems (the system for central records of policies and claims) with new modules for issuing invoices (annexes) for deferred payment. This will ensure equal access for all authorized distribution channels under the same conditions. At the same time, the introduction of these changes aims to protect policyholders by establishing fair competition, preventing potential abuses, and introducing a higher level of discipline in the insurance industry.
Participants in the meeting also pointed out the issue of inappropriate market practices, where certain unlicensed entities (legal and natural persons) distribute insurance products without holding the appropriate license. Additionally, the issue of circumventing legal regulations through promotional and marketing agreements was raised, which in practice function as indirect insurance sales. In the future, such practices will be reported to the ASO, and oversight by the regulator – ASO – will be strengthened in this domain.
The participants agreed that they share a common and unified goal – building a stable, transparent, and modern insurance market that respects fundamental legal principles and is aligned with EU standards.
