COOPERATION OF THE ICT ASSOCIATION FOR ESTBALISHING A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

On the 7th of Mach the president of the Association for information and communication technologies within the Economic Chamber of Macedonia had a meeting with representatives of "PwC" from Luxembourg. The aim of the meeting was an exchange of opinions regarding the Feasibility study for establishing a Centre of Excellence that would include the countries from Western Balkan.

The study is financed by the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the focus of the study is innovations in two areas: Information and Communication technologies and Renewable resources of energy and energy efficiency.

 

The aim of the study is to assess the possibility for establishing a regional Center that would support development of applied researches within a regional eco-system via estimation of the innovation capacity and potential of the institutions, readiness and willingness of institutions to contribute to the development of a regional Centre of excellence, as well as the model for managing and financing the Center of excellence.

Mr. Blagoj Hristov, president of the Association of information and communication technologies emphasized the necessity of real assessment of the role of all institutions dedicated to the support of researches, development and innovations of the ecosystem in the Republic of Macedonia and in the region. Furthermore, he said that the sectors for support of innovative solutions and applied researches, for entrepreneurship in the region should be defined and should include all local regulations for support of startup companies and young entrepreneurs.

The current stage of cooperation regarding the industry was highlighted at the meeting and the academic institutions in the region, the potential for development in the field of ICT and other sectors in the direction of creating space for capacity building via applied researches in order to make a contribution for development of the region.

The assistance of active actors and strengthening the cooperation between the academic institutions and the industry can be complex, via financial support of innovations and transfer of technology, creating proper regulations, lobbying, including investors, marketing, capacity building, dissemination etc.
