The technological and industrial development zones have registered record high economic activity in the first quarter of the year in terms of both export and import, showed the regular monthly analysis of TIDZ Directorate.
According to the analysis, export reached €851.6 million, which is a 10% increase relative to the same period last year. In March, the total export from the zones reached €263 million, which is roughly 2% year-on-year increase.
Import in the first quarter this year climbed to €744.6 million, which is 1.5% higher than the respective period last year.
March import in the TIDZs recorded value of €239 million, maintaining the same level from last year. The analysis has shown that March this year has registered increase of the net export by 14.3%.
Increase was also noted in the number of employees. TIDZ companies employ 14,512 citizens, which is nearly 5% over the figure last year. In comparison with the start of this year, more than 500 people have found jobs in TIDZ companies.
“This growing trend is expected to continue, considering that TIDZD concluded investments agreements in the amount of €188 million in 2021, projected to deliver 2700 new jobs. The analysis also showed that 90% of the companies registered higher year-on-year export activity in March, which indicates to stable production even amid global challenges brought about by the armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as by the price fluctuations in the energy markets,” stated the analysis.
