Prime Minister Zaev held a meeting with the Association of Foreign Companies: Resolving current problems to create favorable business environment to increase exports and attain new investments

The Association of Foreign Companies with Technologically Advanced Production of the Foreign Investors Council under the Chamber continues the practice of work meetings with the top state authorities where they raise key issues and problems to find systemic solutions, with complete openness from the Government concerning the requirements and viewpoints of the export companies in the free economic zones.

The online meeting held on 17/03/2020 with the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, and the economic team of the Government included discussion on the conclusions concerning the priority issues presented by the Association at the meeting held back in December 2020.

There are several key areas that were given priority – import tariffs, infrastructure, tax policies, investment costs, promotion of the regulations, labor relations, movement and stay of foreigners, as well as other issues, aiming to promote the everyday operation of the companies.

Prime Minister Zaev pointed out that the Government places importance on increasing the investors’ trust, commencing new investments, stimulating exports, strengthening human capital and thereby, improving the overall economic growth of the country.

The President of the Economic Chamber, Azeski, turning to the international cooperation, pointed out the support for the export companies through the regional activities with the Greek and Turkish chambers that will result in an establishment of Macedonian-Turkish Business Council. In addition, new projects will be launched through the Chamber Investment Forum, which aim to support and deliver benefits to the Macedonian economic operators in the coming period.

Viktor Mizo, Association President, presented the dynamics of the undertaken operating activities concerning all 11 priority issues that were established as obligations at the last meeting in December. Furthermore, he pointed out the importance of a systemic resolution of the issues by keeping a timetable for their realization.

The meeting included addresses by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government in charge of economic affairs and coordination of the economic sectors and investments, Fatmir Bytyqi, the Minister of Finance, Fatmir Besimi, the Minister of Labor and Social Policy, Jagoda Shahpaska, the Director of the Directorate for Technological and Industrial Development Zones, Jovan Despotovski, and the Director of the Foreign Investment and Export Promotion Agency, Dejan Pavleski.

The meeting attached considerable importance to a consensus in the Assembly of the Republic of North Macedonia regarding issues of national interest to foster the economic development of the country.

In addition, the participants highlighted the growth of exports as a positive signal. According to the statistics, total exports in January 2021 show a 15.5% growth relative to the same month last year, amounting to MKD 32.5 billion. This is the sixth consecutive month that registers export growth, as well as highest terms of trade of 84.7%.
