JOINT MEETING OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE MEMBERS OF THE ECONOMIC CHAMBER OF MACEDONIA WITH THE GOVERNOR OF THE NBRM

Today, the Economic Chamber of Macedonia organized and held a joint meeting of representatives of the companies members of the Chamber with the Governor of the National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, PhD.

Subject matter of the meeting were several issues, including the current macroeconomic environment and the situation in the banking system. Considering the importance of the macroeconomic and financial stability when making business decisions and plans of companies, special emphasis was placed on the consideration of the latest expectations of the National Bank in this respect, and especially the macroeconomic scenario for the period 2018-2019. In this context, the Governor of the NBRM gave a detailed review of the key assumptions about the external environment, which is especially important for a small and open economy like the Macedonian. Moreover, it was emphasized that the global economy continues to recover, but with more pronounced risks in the context of the more pronounced global trade protectionism. In the further course of the discussion, the forecasts of the National Bank regarding the economic activity, inflation, external position of the economy and credit activity of the domestic banking system were considered. The Governor highlighted that these latest forecasts indicate sound fundamentals of the economy, with growth potential, without pressures on inflation and foreign reserves, which are in the safe zone. The economy is expected to be supported by the banking system, which is still stable, liquid and well capitalized. Subject matter of the meeting were also the latest economic and financial indicators, concluding that the flows are mainly in line with the expectations, with the exception of the economic activity that is weaker due to the investment decline and shows the need for faster and stronger revitalization of the investment cycle. Special attention was paid to the possible internal and external risks in the period ahead.

In the second part of the meeting, the Governor of the NBRM held a fruitful discussion with the present representatives of the members of the Chamber, responding to numerous questions addressed by them. At the meeting, it was indicated that such discussion and open dialog with the Governor of the central bank is extremely important for better familiarization of the business community with the NBRM's views, which are crucial for the decision-making of the central bank, which then reflects in the overall economy.

This meeting was held for the purpose of promoting the public and private dialog. At the end of the meeting, the Governor of the NBRM, Anita Angelovska Bezhoska, PhD, and the President of the Chamber, Mr Branko Azeski, jointly emphasized that such meetings will continue in the future, and that additional efforts will be made to promote the cooperation and improve communication between the central bank of the Republic of Macedonia and the business community.
